Barclays Strategic Promotions

Project overview

Barclays are always looking for new ways to meet their customers needs, which means that adapting existing products to accommodate these iterations is necessary. As part of the introduction of different types of promotions (Balance Transfers, Money Transfers and Purchase Offers) on Barclaycard Credit Cards, I was required to propose iterations to the existing credit card management customer platform.

Details of process

I initially gathered requirements from key stakeholders to understand the requirements from as product focused perspective and a legal perspective. Once this was complete, I began sketching ideas for how we could enable customers to see the different type of offers available, pivot on the different types of offers and also tailor the outputs to their specific circumstances.

This piece of work sat outside the remit of the existing credit card management customer platform design team, but I ensured I collaborated with them where possible, to ensure a consistent experience for the users by re-using existing patterns and behaviours. Once I had a series of sketches for proposed solutions, I ran a workshop that involved the credit card management team and the Strategic Promotions team to obtain feedback. I then used this feedback to refine the proposed solution and create an interactive prototype, ready for user testing.

I worked in collaboration with a third party agency in order to plan the research and generate scenarios. I observed the research throughout and provided feedback between sessions to ensure we were getting all of the useful insights possible out of the sessions. Once they had generated an extensive report, I then got to work making the final iterations to the prototype, before collaborating with a UI designer and developer to deliver the final product.
